‘Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.’
Yes. Yes. And more yes.
I’ve just ordered the hardback edition of this because it was down to five pounds and I’m fed up with recommending it to my library.
Based on the descriptions I’ve read and based on the cover this is giving me serious ‘Night Circus’ vibes and anyone who’s been following this blog knows I am all about Erin Morgenstern.
This is only the first in what promises to be a two part series so I’m entirely prepared for an elaborate set up and a somewhat unsatisfactory (not in a negative way) ending that promises more. The other thing that slightly worries me is the way the descriptions of the book rely a lot on the motivation that comes from having a ‘cruel father’ which can be a bit of a trap when it comes to young adult novels. I want more character development than just escapism. These need to be well rounded individuals.
That being said, I’m willing to get very excited about this one. I want to see where it goes and with an offer online I could hardly turn down ordering this as soon as I saw it. I’ll be sure to let you guys know what I think, and I’ll try my best to avoid the reviews before then.
Have any of you read this? Are you hoping to add it to your shelves? Let me know!
