As you may well know if you’ve been following this blog for some time (shout out to you if that’s the case) I don’t read a huge amount of contemporary YA fiction. Today’s choice of W2RW may therefore seem a little odd, the cover itself has basically every trope of YA contemporary lit that normally I wouldn’t plump for.
But it’s the authors of this book that makes me want to read it. I’ve been following Alison and Gaby on their Youtube channel Just Between Us for a few years now and I thoroughly enjoy their vibe and their energy and I’m interested to see how that comes across in this book. The story is apparently told through a series of text messages which should be an unusual perspective. To quote the Goodreads summary:
From first loves to weird roommates, heartbreak, self-discovery, coming out and mental health, the two best friends will document every moment to each other. But as each changes and grows into her new life, will their friendship be able to survive the distance?
Which sounds like it’ll be a compelling read. This is publishing in September (not sure if that’s US only or if it’ll be coming to the UK at the same time/later/at all. All in all these are a duo I want to support!
Have you encountered Gaby and Alison on your quest through the internet? Are there any other Youtuber books you think are worth reading? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter @judithcmoore.
Can’t wait to hear from you
