Hello Humans! I recently went on a spree of adding 2019 releases onto my TBR so my Want to Read shelf on Goodreads is looking a little…enormous and terrifying. But it has got me very excited about all the amazing books that will be coming in the next twelve months or so!
Potential spoilers for The Cruel Prince ahead!
Goodreads Summary:
You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.
The first lesson is to make yourself strong.
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.
As many will know, I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Cruel Prince, not that I didn’t like it, but I wasn’t as deep in the hype as everyone else seemed to be at the time. I have a feeling it was something about the time at which I read it, as a lot of the people I have similar reading tastes to enjoyed it. I am planning on giving The Cruel Prince a re-read, maybe in July to see if my opinion changes.
I’m also a great believer in the power of sequels to be infinitely better than first novels so I am looking forward to reading this story, and the synopsis sounds pretty awesome.
Are you excited for The Wicked King? Let me know in the comments below!

I wasn’t over the moon about The Cruel Prince either but I’m still looking forward to The Wicked King. The story has a great premise but I’m hoping to get better character development from this one and maybe less from the older sister who, really, didn’t serve much a of purpose in the first book if you ask me. She felt like filler.

I loved the Cruel Prince! Maybe it was because it was my first faerie book and Holly Black book🤔 Anyhow I can’t wait for The Wicked King!!
